Nestled in the vibrant heart of Bilbao’s Abando district, Restaurante San Telmo Pastificio offers an authentic taste of Italy that delights every sense. This charming Italian restaurant on Alameda de Recalde, 58, is a haven for pasta lovers and aficionados of genuine Mediterranean flavors. From the moment you step inside, the inviting atmosphere — characterized by soft, tasteful background music and a cozy, intimate setting — sets the stage for a truly memorable dining experience.
The kitchen’s dedication to quality ingredients and traditional recipes shines through in every dish. One cannot help but be drawn to their celebrated homemade burrata injected with vibrant pesto, paired perfectly with dried tomatoes that burst with concentrated flavor — a dish repeatedly praised by guests as one of the best they've ever tasted. Complementing this is a variety of freshly made pasta dishes, like the rich and pepper-kissed carbonara or the filled pasta with mozzarella and jamón, which deliver layers of texture and taste that transport you straight to Italy’s rustic trattorias.
To accompany the dishes, the curated selection of beers is impressive and thoughtfully diverse, featuring local gems such as La Salve Lager and Lucía La Salve from Bilbao, alongside intriguing international brews like the Belgian Chuffle 8% and Sicilian Messina. For those preferring non-alcoholic options, the menu includes refreshing choices like Tónica Royal Bliss and a variety of classic soft drinks to cleanse the palate.
No Italian meal is complete without dessert, and San Telmo Pastificio seals the experience with their sumptuous Tiramisú de Pera Caramelizada. This twist on the classic tiramisu offers a luscious, caramelized pear sweetness balanced by creamy mascarpone — a dessert so delightful that customers like Yasmin Fernandez rave about it as a perfect finale to their meal.
What truly makes San Telmo Pastificio stand out is the heartfelt hospitality. The staff are attentive and warm, creating a sense of welcome that enhances the overall charm of the evening. It’s clear that this is more than a restaurant; it’s a culinary destination where careful preparation and genuine passion meet. First of all, Really loved the atmosphere! A small Italian restaurant, lovely music in the background. The Carbonara was very good and the Tiramisu also! Recommend! I suggest you make a reservation, the place can get full very quickly.

Amazing Italian restaurant in the heart of Bilbao. The food was sublime. The waiters were nice and friendly. The restaurant was constantly full and walk-ins were turned away, so booking is a must - I think we booked three days in advance. The only minor criticisms we have were that they didn’t have any prosecco to accompany the food (a must for an Italian restaurant and we personally wouldn’t mind paying a premium for it) and that it was very hot indoors - so much so that as nice as the food was, we were sweating so we couldn’t fully enjoy it and couldn’t really wait to get back outside.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. We had a reservation and the place was fully booked. The buratta with dried tomatoes was delicious, one of the best we have ever had. The tomatoes tasted fresh even when dried. the pesto injected in the buratta was just a bonus! The filled pasta with mozarella and jamon was absolutely amazing. Carbonara was very good, had a lot of pepper though. We had a better one in Italy but this was probably the second best. Overall, we loved the place. We had to wait a bit for the food and did not receive the main dishes at the same time. It was very hot in the restaurant.

They have great appetizers; the fonduta di nduja and the burrata injected with pesto are the must-try dishes. They offer a variety of pasta and vegetarian dishes.
